Doctors Lucas, Kim, and Tanbe of VVICM are board certified vascular surgeons dedicated to the comprehensive treatment of all facets of vascular disease. Our providers are leading experts in the field.

Dr. Kim is a fellowship-trained and board-certified vascular surgeon. He sees and treats all aspects of vascular disease including arteries and veins, tailoring minimally invasive as well as open surgeries for the best outcome and comfort of the patients in mind.

Before coming to Baltimore, he was an academic vascular surgeon at the Weill Cornell Medical School in New York. There, he functioned as an assistant professor of clinical surgery and the lead in the resident surgical technique program. For the past decade now, he has been in Baltimore, focusing on the diagnosis and minimally invasive treatments for leg swelling and pelvic venous congestion using intravascular ultrasound(IVUS) for which his expertise is recognized locally, regionally and internationally.

Dr. Kim is a strong advocate for the awareness of May-Thurner Syndrome which leads to leg and pelvic pain, and was featured in WBAL 11 medical segment that has won the prestigious National Headline Broadcast award in 2020. A recipient of Arnold P. Gold Foundation’s Humanism Award, Dr. Kim’s genuine interest for the well-being of his patients have been deeply appreciated by many of his patients and their families.

Dr. Lucas is a vascular surgeon with nearly 20 years of experience in private practice. He serves as the Medical Director of the Vein and Vascular Institute of Central Maryland (VVICM), and is a Board Certified Vascular Surgeon. He specializes and treats a multitude of vascular diseases and conditions, both arterial and venous, using minimally invasive and open techniques to ensure the best possible outcomes for his patients.

Dr. Lucas has a special interest in spider veins, and is a trained laser specialist offering multiple modalities for treatment. He is the only vascular surgeon in the region to offer Veingogh and Sciton laser treatments with ClearV.

In addition, Dr. Lucas offers laser skin care using HALO, BBL, and skin resurfacing peels to reduce wrinkles and fine lines, and to provide his patients with a more rejuvenated appearance.

Dr. Lucas has been frequently recognized as a Baltimore Magazine Top Doc, and is known for his compassionate and caring doctor-patient relationships, and believes that medical care is a comprehensive team effort.

Dr. Tanbe is a fellowship-trained, Board Certified Vascular Surgeon. His surgical residency was completed at Maine Medical Center-Tufts University and he performed a vascular fellowship at North Shore University hospital in New York.

Dr. Tanbe covers the full spectrum of vascular care including peripheral artery disease, vascular blockages, lower extremities circulation problems, leg swelling, Varicose veins, spider veins, Venous insufficiency, diabetic wounds, Carotid artery disease and vascular aneurysms.

He utilizes the latest and most cutting-edge minimally invasive equipment and techniques and works closely with every patient to assure the most appropriate treatment of their vascular issues.
